I help people discover Ireland's real countryside

For 16 years, I've been designing farm experiences and heritage trails that connect visitors—especially older travelers—with West Cork's authentic rural traditions. No tour buses. No shortcuts. Just genuine encounters with farming families, ancient bog landscapes, and the stories that shaped Ireland's countryside.

How It Started

Growing up on the land shaped everything

2008

I finished my degree in Environmental Management at University College Cork. Grew up on my family's mixed farm in the Mizen Peninsula—that wasn't just where I lived, it was the entire education I needed. You learn land management by living it. By watching seasonal changes, understanding soil, seeing what works and what doesn't over decades.

2009

Started working with a small agri-tourism cooperative in West Cork. That's where I realized something important—visitors weren't coming for polished presentations. They wanted to meet actual farming families, understand why decisions get made, see the real work. So I started designing walks that felt like you were learning from a neighbor, not being lectured to.

2016

Designed the first series of bog heritage trails that became a model across Ireland. Worked with historians, peat cutters, and conservation groups to create something that honored the landscape's complexity. Not just "here's a bog," but "here's how this shaped Irish history, economy, and culture." That project changed everything about how I approach interpretation.

Today

Senior Rural Tourism Specialist at securboxe Limited. I work with farming families to develop tourism offerings that respect their livelihoods and the landscape. Most of my focus is on creating experiences for older adults—they're curious, they appreciate depth, and they often have personal connections to rural life that make these encounters meaningful. I've learned that the best experiences happen when you slow down and listen.

What I Know

Deep knowledge across rural tourism

Sixteen years of working directly with farming communities, heritage organizations, and visitors has given me specific expertise across several interconnected areas.

Agri-Tourism Development

Helping farming families create tourism experiences that work with their operations, not against them. I've worked with over 40 farms to develop everything from guided walks to farm-to-table dinners.

West Cork Countryside

Deep connections to the Mizen Peninsula, Beara, and Sheep's Head. I know the land, the families, the seasonal rhythms. I can show people places that tour guides never find.

Heritage Interpretation

Completed postgraduate studies in Heritage Tourism at Waterford Institute of Technology. Designed bog heritage trails used as models across Ireland's midlands and west.

Accessible Experiences for Seniors

I specialize in creating farm visits, walks, and heritage experiences designed specifically for older adults. Accessible terrain, meaningful pace, and authentic engagement.

Farm-to-Table Tourism

Connecting visitors directly with producers. I've curated farm visits that include meals prepared from what you've just seen grown or raised.

Rural Heritage Trails

Designed and managed bog heritage trails, agricultural heritage routes, and traditional countryside walks. Every trail tells a story about how land and people shaped each other.

My Approach

Authentic experiences, never watered down

Real encounters matter

I don't believe in manufactured tourism experiences. When you visit a farm, you're meeting actual farming families who've worked that land for generations. They'll tell you the truth about weather, markets, and what keeps them going. That authenticity can't be faked.

Respect the landscape

Tourism can damage what makes places special. I design every trail and visit to respect the environment. That means limited group sizes, staying on designated paths, and supporting conservation efforts. The countryside needs to stay viable for the people who actually live and work there.

Slow travel wins

You can't understand Irish rural life in three hours. I design experiences that unfold over time—full days, sometimes multi-day visits. Older visitors especially appreciate this. They want to sit, listen, ask questions, and really absorb what they're learning.

Stories are everything

Agriculture, heritage, landscape—none of it means much without the human stories. I approach each trail as a storyteller. How did this bog get formed? Why do farmers make certain choices? What does this tradition mean to the people who practice it? That context is what makes experiences memorable.
