2008
I finished my degree in Environmental Management at University
College Cork. Grew up on my family's mixed farm in the Mizen
Peninsula—that wasn't just where I lived, it was the entire
education I needed. You learn land management by living it. By
watching seasonal changes, understanding soil, seeing what
works and what doesn't over decades.
2009
Started working with a small agri-tourism cooperative in West
Cork. That's where I realized something important—visitors
weren't coming for polished presentations. They wanted to meet
actual farming families, understand why decisions get made,
see the real work. So I started designing walks that felt like
you were learning from a neighbor, not being lectured to.
2016
Designed the first series of bog heritage trails that became a
model across Ireland. Worked with historians, peat cutters,
and conservation groups to create something that honored the
landscape's complexity. Not just "here's a bog," but "here's
how this shaped Irish history, economy, and culture." That
project changed everything about how I approach
interpretation.
Today
Senior Rural Tourism Specialist at securboxe Limited. I work
with farming families to develop tourism offerings that
respect their livelihoods and the landscape. Most of my focus
is on creating experiences for older adults—they're curious,
they appreciate depth, and they often have personal
connections to rural life that make these encounters
meaningful. I've learned that the best experiences happen when
you slow down and listen.
